What is Damaged Hair?

Updated: Feb 17, 2021

Beauty BFFs, damaged hair could be caused by over heating damages, chemical damages (permanent change with coloring, lightening, relaxing, and perming), and thinning/hair loss. Creating split ends, breakage, dryness, and dullness in the hair.

Hair has three different types of bonds that link protein chains together, the disulfide bonds, hydrogen bonds and salt bonds. Chemical damages and heat damages break down the disulfide bonds (the strongest) in the hair, which permanently makes hair fragile and brittle. That is why professional treatments are added to the professional services at the salon to prevent or lessen breakage. But that doesn’t mean that your hair will not break if over processed, it will.

Protein products are recommended to help fill all the missing ones in damaged hair. There are products that will help maintain your hair at home at its best after the damage is done. There are also products that will help prevent damages from heat over process and help make dull hair come to life. Below are some recommendations.
